Description

Welcome your new students back to school with a summer snapshot collaborative slideshow. Each student will customize one slide of the Google Slides presentation to tell about the top 5 things they did over summer. Students love sharing about their summers, so why not let them have fun doing it while getting to know each other and practicing their computer skills!

Each student will customize 1 slide of the presentation with:

  • Name
  • Selfie (using the built-in camera or picture saved on the computer)
  • 5 Images (using the built-in Google Search in Google Slides)
  • Captions to describe the images
  • Summer-themed digital stickers (16 included)

▶️ Watch the video preview to see this product up close!

How to use the slideshow to build classroom community:

  • Project the slideshow and have students present their slide to the class
  • Students each have a voice to share something they feel confident about, their summer
  • Have students use the comment button to ask questions and get to know their new classmates (Students ❤️ this. Directions included.)
  • Print the slides to make a bulletin board, showcasing each student
  • Project the slideshow at Back to School Night/Open House

What’s Included:

  • Links to 2 Google Slides presentations to choose from
    • One presentation where students write a caption for their top pick
    • One presentation where students write a caption for every pick
  • 36 student slides for each presentation (you can duplicate or delete slides)
  • Tips for managing students working collaboratively in the same presentation
  • Video instructions for assigning this activity in Google Classroom
  • Step-by-step instructions for editing, inserting images, commenting, sharing the presentation, and printing slides
  • BONUS Collaborative Discussion Slides
    • What's something you learned over the summer?
    • What will you miss the most about summer?
    • Type your own question

What are the BONUS Discussion Slides?

I love starting out a collaborative activity with a collaborative discussion slide first. Students will all answer one question by typing their answer into an assigned box on the same slide. Discussion slides give every students a voice, without having each student share out loud. They're also a quick way to hold a discussion. After the discussion, I send my students off to customize their own slide.

Discussion Questions include:

  • What's something you learned over the summer?
  • What will you miss the most about summer?
  • Type your own question

Who is this activity good for?

This activity is great for students who are just starting to use Google Slides and also those already Google Slides savvy.

  • Text boxes have already been created so students know where to type
  • Image icons show where to insert images
  • All shapes are locked down.
