This is a writing activity I created to go along with the book: How I Spent My Summer Vacation by Mark Teague. There are five pages to this activity and I staple it into a booklet. I begin by reading the book aloud to students. We talk about how the story the boy tells about his summer vacation is a "whopper." Students brainstorm "whoppers" they could tell about their own summer vacations- the crazier, the better! The first page of this booklet begins like the story: "Over summer vacation, I headed..." Students fill in the rest. For each page after, the students add to the story and illustrate each part in a sun shaped box at the top. I've began each page with a transitional word (then...finally...) My kids LOVED writing and sharing these stories. After they shared, I gave them some "Whoppers" candies. Fun activity!
