Students need lots of practice measuring things in order to get proficient in it. In the late winter, they are getting ready for standardized tests and you may not have had time to get measuring into your plans before now.
This activity can be set up in your room and left up for several days while your students work to measure each picture. Tape the pictures that match side by side around the room at a height that your students can reach.
Materials Needed: Rulers with inches, pencils, and clipboards or a hard surface to write on.
You can assign this in a center to be completed at their own time, or you can assign it for one of your math stations. Play SCOOT with it by taping each one to a desk. Students measure the desk they are standing behind, then move to the next desk when you tell them to. It’s also a good activity to use if you’ve been cooped up on too many cold days or rainy days. Students will get to move around the room and interact with others while doing this.
