Description

This fun and original assembly aims to help children understand how memory works and how they can improve their ability to remember, through:

• Understanding the difference between short-term and long-term memory;

• Experiencing the limits of short-term memory;

• Learning how information moves into long-term memory;

• Practising simple, practical memorising strategies they can use in class.

This assembly is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people.

The assembly contains key research-backed information about our short-term and long-term memories, and strategies for helping children to memorise information. It also includes a fun gameshow-style activity here, in which children should use different memorisation strategies to remember items.

There is enough material to lead a 35-40 minute assembly here. It is suitable for children across the primary phase.

The slides are comprehensive and relatively self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!
