Fall is here and pumpkins abound! “How Much Does This Pumpkin Weigh?” is a fabulous way to get into the swing of Halloween while your class practices essential math skills. Students estimate the weight of a pumpkin with and without its insides. They’ll also take the pumpkin’s actual weight measurements. Your students then put their data on a bar graph and make calculations based on their graph.
The lesson includes suggestions on how to frame class discussions, differentiation ideas, ideas for extensions, a homework sheet and graph paper.
You'll need a small to medium sized pumpkin and a scale to do this lesson!
