Actually this is an activity vaery similar to many on TpT. You give students a list of words, they refer to a grid in which each letter has a coin value. They add the coins to find the total value of the each word. The difference with this one is multi-faceted. First of all I used fronts and backs of coins so that their image varied. Second, there are 10 sheets in all. The sheets are scaffolded so that only certain coin combinations are on each card, until you reach the end where they all are. I also included one grid with half-dollars for challenge. Inside each table coin values are written, in decimal form. This halps with place value and the transition into real money use! Just laminate the grids and use the first two pages for kids to work out their problems. Some kids can use markers to cross of letter boxes too in order to track. Enjoy!
