Do your students struggle with word problems? Word problems with missing parts? Mine did, so I created this small group and center activity to practice solving word problems with missing addends and missing subtrahends!
24 different word problem cards -12 each for missing addends and missing subtrahends
Recording sheet (black and white)
Tens-Frames work mat (black and white)
*All with a St. Patrick's Day theme*
Print, laminate and cut the word problem cards and you are ready to go! You can keep all the cards at a center, separate them into green pennants (missing addends) and gold pennants (missing subtrahends), post them around the room, work them out during whole group lessons, small group RtI or individual practice.
I print the work mat on colored card stock and either laminate or slip into a protective sleeve. Students can use manipulatives or dry erase markers to solve each problem. Then they write the equation and missing part the recording sheet.
All cards have equations within 20 and meet CCSS 1.OA.D.8 Determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction
equation relating three whole numbers.
