This unit inspired by the book How to Catch an Elf is a fun and engaging procedural writing unit and craftivity during the Christmas season. Through reading the book, students become inspired to set their own elf trap. This integrated How to Catch an Elf project includes a craft, a how-to writing unit, an at home STEM project creating the elf trap, and it's all displayed on a bulletin board.

After reading aloud the book, students design their own elf trap. The elf trap can then be made at home as an at-home STEM project. In class, students continue to work on writing their how-to unit. The procedural writing can then be displayed on a class bulletin board with the elf craft and writing.
