This is a fun writing activity that I do with my class every November.
We start off by reading “The PlumpAnd Perky Turkey” (however, any Thanksgiving/Turkey book could do) and then discuss how the turkey was able to escape.Next I ask my students to brainstorm a way they could disguise a turkey to keep it safe during the Thanksgiving season. We take this activity all the way through the writing process and then end it with creating our disguised turkey out of art supplies.
I have included many sheets that can be used to help your students create a great piece of “How-To” writing. Some are for the same step of the writing process, just written with a different format/wording.
Included in this packet:
-Brainstorming disguise ideas
-Favorite brainstorm/disguise drawing
-Word Choice thinking section
-Steps to Take sheet with no pictures (rough draft)
-Steps to Take sheet with pictures (rough draft)
-Transition Words sheet with no pictures (rough draft)
-Final Copy sheet with narrow lines
-Final Copy sheet with wide lines
After the students have finished their writing, we use paper plates and other craft materials to create their disguised turkey and display their writing with it. :)
Thank you so much for looking at this writing activity. Please let me know if you have any questions!
