Do you know how to use a Rainbow Loom or build a house on Minecraft? Your students do! Let your second-graders share their expertise with How-To Writing!
Instead of doing several Explanatory Essays, I like to focus on just one and help students make it better and better through multiple drafts that add new skills each time. This method makes writing informative texts easier to manage for you and your students.
These "Ready To Print" student pages meet FIVE of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English Language Arts (ELA) for Grade 2 Writing & Language and support students through the entire Writing Process!
Students focus on just three “Must-Have’s” for each draft—not tackling everything all at once. This allows them to be successful a little bit at a time while constructing an Essay that is top-notch by the end of Draft Three.
My How-To Writing Packet is all you will need! It is “Ready-To-Print” and has directions for each step. Each new draft has Preparation Pages that prepare the students to focus on the new Must-Have’s.
After Draft Three, students can publish in any way that you choose using technology in some way. I elected to create a class book for each student so they could have Boredom-Busters over Holiday Breaks.
I have included a Student Self-Evaluation and a Teacher Rubric for assessment.
