I work with the big kids so I'm always looking for ways to motivate and engage them in activities that will address their language goals. Videos have always been one source of inspiration so I found a few "how-to" and "how's that made" videos (on the subject of food, of course) and it's been a big hit with my middle and high schoolers!
This free product can be used to accompany my blog post on using How-To Videos in your language lessons : HERE
Use the graphic organizers/writing sheets to write and draw the steps in a process. Several 3-5 minute videos have been selected **please see blog post highlighted above***(although many others are searchable on you tube or other media sites). View and pause the how-to videos when needed and write/draw the important information. Then use that information to write a complete paragraph explaining the how-to process you have just viewed. How-to writing is a great way to address sequencing, retelling, predicting, using good descriptive language, and good organization.
