This assignment poses the big question "How to Prevent School Violence In Your School." School Shootings at Parkland, Sandy Hook, and many more show the necessity to better protect our schools and children. Teach your students to use their voice and get involved politically in shaping school or governmental policy. This assignment engages all students and forces students to create solutions and critically think about gun violence, the 2nd Amendment, and how to best protect your school. Students research and attempt to persuade their teacher, classmates and their school administration on new policies to better protect their school. Self Learning Environments (SOLE's) pose a question to students, give them specified time limits for research and presentation to classmates or other adults. Lesson is designed to be started and completed in one class period but my students are so engaged in this topic it lasts longer. Work the topic into Federalism, Amendment Rights, and or civic participation. Grading Rubric, teaching suggestions and links to all provided.
This is a topic that can save lives and change policy... get the discussion started at your school and use this assignment to lead the charge.
