This "How To" Writing Packet includes templates to help make "How To" writing easier to plan and to teach. It also helps students to add more detail to their writing by giving them a page for every step as well as room for a picture. For each page in the packet, there is a different sequencing, transitional word to help student to remember these words in their writing. There is also a page without any transition words for when you feel they are ready to do this step on their own. The packet also includes a Transitional Word Poster to hang in your classroom. In addition, the packet includes a cover page and a page where the students can list the materials needed for their how to topic. I have also included a variety of cover pages where the title is already included in case any students have trouble coming up with a topic or you would like to have everyone do the same topic. I sometimes do this at the beginning of the unit to introduce "How To" writing. Yo can have the books already stapled together for the students or you can have them choose the paper they will work on that day. The books can be as short or as long as you want them to be. The possibilities are endless. This unit fits in with information writing in the common core standards and can be used across grade levels.
