Product Description
Constructing a “How To” Informational Writing Unit

Are you looking for a complete How-To or Procedural Writing Unit for 1st-3rd graders? This unit is just what you need! It includes all the resources you need to teach a “how to” or procedural writing unit from beginning to end! My students did AMAZING with this unit. They especially loved building the ice cream sundae for the shared writing activity. It really got their minds thinking about all the possibilities to write their own piece of “How To” writing.

In this “How-To” or procedural writing unit, teacher and students work together to write about “how-to” make an ice cream sundae. Then, students choose their own topic for their writing, rather than the teacher telling them what they will be writing about. I feel that this really fueled my students’ engagement and eagerness to write!

Included in this unit are the following items:
• Color anchor charts/posters
• Black and white anchor charts/posters
• Color and Black/White Student “How-To” Writing reference pages for their writing journals
• Topic Suggestion List
• Build Your Own Ice Cream Sundae Shared Writing Lesson and Printables
• Brainstorming Organizer
• 4 different “How To” or Procedural Writing graphic organizers
• 3 different Writing Paper styles
• Editing Checklist (Color and Black and White)
• “How To” or Procedural Writing Rubric
