1 writing work sheet
2 vocabulary dice, to practice "to be" conjugations with different pronouns and reinforce basic emotions vocabulary.
8 coloured flashcards with 8 smiles demonstrating: Great/Happy, Good, Okay/Fine, Sick, Sad, Sleepy, Hungry & Angry.
Together these make a full lesson plan for beginner esl learners. The elements can be moved around and adapted for the class' needs.
An example is to:
1) Introduce the vocabulary with the flashcards,
1b) Reinforce with kinaesthetic activity.
2) Colour & construct the dice (depending on the age this task varies in time).
2b) Explain the conjugations of "to be" & reinforce with an activity. (I like to have learners organize flashcards that read: "I, you, he, she, it, we, they, am, are, is, is, is, are, are.")
2c) Roll both dice a once and construct the corresponding sentences by adding the appropriate conjugation of "to be". By this time you should has a chart of "to be" conjugation for the learners to reference. (You can warm up to this stage by reading the 8 options of each die and illustrating each with a gesture, example: a big smile for 'happy' or point at a boy for 'he')
3) Calm down with the writing worksheet, assign it for homework or use it for review to start your next class. You can also warm up your next class with the dice activity, since they are made and the activity is explained.
