I use these to do a quick check on my student's comfort level with a topic. When I teach something new, I just ask my students to tell me how they are feeling. They put up a finger to match their comfort level. For example, if after I taught about ecosystems, I would ask my class "Tell me how you are feeling about ecosystems?" They would put up a 1-lost, 2-little stormy, 3-little cloudy, or 4-bright and confident. This way I can go back and reteach or check in with my 1s and 2s and give independent work to my 3s and 4s. This is a great way to check in quick with the class.
