These visuals are wonderful for teaching children how to spell the /k/ sound on the end of basewords. They learn the rule for spelling the /k/ sound after a short vowel in 1 & 2 syllable words. They also learn the rule for spelling the /k/ sound after a long vowel or vowel team. I have added the number 1 to the truck as a visual reminder that this is only for 1 syllable base words after a short vowel sound. There are 2 picnic tables as a visual for 2 syllable words. The long vowel and vowel team poster has cheerleaders to help them remember. This is one of the hardest rules for children to apply. My first and 2nd graders can spell these words correctly and the majority of them of them can tell you the rule and why. Because of these visuals, this is no longer an abstract and rote rule for them. They get it!
You will need to decide which pages to print and whether or not to print on colored paper or not. The picnic visual is full color and must be printed as such. The other 2 have options for you to choose!
