I use these cards at the beginning of the year to keep track of how each child gets home. They are attached to a ribbon on the wall by our classroom door, but I only staple them at the center of each card so the edges are loose. Then, I give each student a wooden clothespin with their name on it and they attach their clothespin to the card that corresponds with the way they go home.
It's a great tool for substitutes, too, because they can easily see each child's mode of transportation. By using clothespins, the children can easily move their own if their transportation plan changes now and then.
