A wonderful story that brings to light autism awareness. This book is based on the true story of Temple Grandin. Temple grew up misunderstood by many, but persevered and her accomplishments for humane animal treatment and an advocate for others with autism have been recognized as incredibly valuable to the greater community.
Temple never liked hugs as a young girl. She understood that she was "supposed to" like them and she could see others who found comfort in them, but to her they felt like itchy socks and smelly perfume. This is a story of Temple's innovation and her "hug machine."
This story was written by Amy Guglielmo and Jacqueline Tourville. The pictures are beautifully illustrated by Giselle Potter.
I have created 23 book extension activities for this title.
