The main portion of this resource is a PBL on how to catch a leprechaun.
The students can be challenged to make a trap to catch him or her. There are also many books available to hook your students. Just google ‘how to catch a leprechaun’ plenty are available.
Students can also just make a trap for fun. Have your students tap into their creativity. The rest of the resource are creative writing activities you can do with your class. Pick and choose which ones you’d like to use.
Also included in this packet is:
Lift the flap book: students can write or illustrate how to catch a leprechaun. A blank flap book is also included for your own ideas.
Staggered flap book: again, students can write or illustrate. A blank book is also included for your own ideas.
A variety of blank templates that you can have your students complete depending on your own criteria.
First students brainstorm what they know about leprechauns. Then using this knowledge they will make a mind map of all the ways they could catch a leprechaun.
Picking one way, students then go about using their creativity to make one. You can set the criteria for what objects they can use. Whether is recyclables, Lego, blocks, or what ever. There is also a reflective part at the end for your students to extend their thinking.
Art activity – make a leprechaun using plasticine.
