How to Use This Product:
I recently created this product to prepare my students for their state writing exams because I wasn't satisfied with the existing curriculum. This product is just one part of a small line of products I created to practice isolated writing skills that are deemed important by Common Core State Standards. In this case, the Citing Sources packet contains guided instructions to show students (1) how to read for evidence, (2) how to cite sources using direct quotes and paraphrases, and, lastly, (3) how to elaborate upon that evidence. Doing this packet together with my class provided that last push they needed for the concept of citing sources to truly sink in. I also combined it with my Prompt-to-Paragraph Introduction packet (soon to be uploaded on TPT), quotation practice, and transition word work. Finally, I ended the week-long intensive training with a practice prompt followed by a student-friendly rubric that they used to grade one another's papers (rubric is also up and coming on TPT).
Altogether, my kids have become amazing, as well as self-reflective, writers! I hope that this product helps your students do the same! :)
