I have created a 15 Slide PowerPoint that demonstrates how a Teacher, Parent and/or Middle/High School Student can create a Speech Banana with a copy of their recent audiogram. Self-Advocacy for students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) is absolutely essential for them to obtain successful learning outcomes! As a Teacher of the Deaf, I teach my middle school and high school students "how to" create a Speech Banana, so that when they become employed and/or prepare for post-secondary settings, they'll be able to explain their hearing loss in visual format to professors, bosses, co-workers and/or to whom ever they feel should be informed of their hearing needs. I have also used the Speech Banana as a reference tool for in-services with new teachers who are not aware of my DHH student's needs. It is a great resource because it is a visual of the child's hearing loss! It truly helps educators betters understand their student's hearing needs. This slide demonstrates the 13 steps that it takes to correctly create a Speech Banana. I have written directions, as well as included pictures for referencing purposes!
***You can also find the "Speech Banana Form" for FREE in my Shop to print and use to create a Speech Banana.
