This is a two page lesson plan and two page handout to be used to teach students how to keep track of characters in a text or a play and, in addition, how to keep track of character change within a book or a play.
Sometimes there are just too many characters in a text for a student to keep track of. Okay, this also happens for teachers at times, too. I tried my best to come up with a way to help students keep track of the characters they encountered in their reading.
It includes the complete lesson plan, common core aligned, with aim, do-now, objective, standard, pivotal questions, activity, and even graphic organizer. I originally intended to use this lesson when teaching a play, but I've used it for multiple texts now. Also, the last two pages of the file can be used as a student-friendly handout. It contains the aim, do-now, space for the student to answer the do-now, the most important notes for the lesson, and graphic organizer. You can hand it out at the beginning of the lesson and collect it at the end to assess their understanding.
I hope you enjoy!
