Hi! I'm JoLayne Cafasso and this is one of my creations: a short and sweet worksheet to help second or third graders create a bar graph. It includes important vocabulary words and definitions students need to know in order to make the bar graph.
The students are first guided by the teacher through a survey of favorite movies. The students vote and record their tally marks on the chart. Then, using this newly acquired data, they begin to make the bar graph. The teacher leads the students through the steps of choosing an appropriate title for the graph, deciding upon the correct scale to use and drawing the lines to separate the bars. Labels are chosen and applied to the graph, and the bars are colored in. Questions can then be asked using the graph information such as, "Which movie was the favorite?" or "How many more people like Brave than Madagascar?"
This worksheet lends itself to the children being able to create a bar graph on their own based solely upon tally chart information, in future lessons.
