Preparing the Thanksgiving Turkey uses temporal words like first, then, next, and last. First, students cut and read the story strips, and put them in the suggested order. Then, they cut the picture boxes and match them to the corresponding story strips. Students fold pages 3 and 4 placing the shorter one under the other, and staple close to the fold. (See the sample of the finished product.) Last, they will color, and enjoy the reading and the step booklet.
The other activity is to retell/write (in their own words) the sequence of how to prepare the turkey using the picture squares, and the order of the temporal words the way they did when making the step booklet.
***If you would rather, you can have students make the step booklet out of a single sheet of construction paper (cut in half) instead of regular paper.
