This resource contains fun materials that will excite, and motivate, your 2nd-4th grade students to think deeply about their reading.
Foremost, these materials were designed to guide students to identify, and write, the central message of a story.
This resource is also a great way to introduce young readers to "theme". Although "theme" is not formally seen in CCSS until 4th grade, these materials make identifying theme, on a basic level, completely accessible to younger readers. They CAN do it!
Here is the complete list of what this resource contains:
Captain Book Hat template
Thinking Deeply About Text Anchor Chart
The Book Pirate Code Anchor Chart

These materials are deeply loved by my students and have increased their desire and motivation to think beyond the words, and find the greater meaning in their reading.
