Rather than students only turning in their big essays or projects to the teacher, a Publication Celebration gives them the opportunity to show off their hard work and brilliant ideas to peers. Having music, food, and positive feedback adds even more incentives to the positive peer pressure to turn in the paper or project on time and to the best of the student’s ability. This handout contains the instructions.
I adapted this activity from my mentor teacher over 10 years ago and have used it every few months since in both my English and Global Studies classes. Students report at the end of the year that it was a huge highlight of the class, and really helped them improve their writing.
