Whether you call them fireflies or lightning bugs, these insects are fascinating! As part of your science studies on life cycles or insects, here's a set of firefly facts for your students to match.
Included are a dozen fact strips, split for matching. For example, "Fireflies glow/at all stages of their life cycle" and "Fireflies inject/ poison that will turn their prey into a liquid". Facts like that one are guaranteed to keep your young students interested in this activity!
This set is best used with the book How to Survive As A Firefly
, written by Kristen Foote and illustrated by Erica Salcedo, with your students using the text to search for information or verify the facts.
This resource will be useful in both literacy and science centers.
Also included are vocabulary cards for metamorphosis and bioluminescence, two key terms when you're teaching about fireflies.
