This document provides English teachers with a fresh, stimulating writing exercise, one that students enjoy. Few methods that I've tried have come close to producing the quantity and quality of writing that results from just one class period using this technique.
The document spells out clear rationale for the exercise, a quick list of materials, and a precise list of steps in the process. There is also a list of potential follow-up, which leaves lots of flexibility for the teacher.
Based on the results I've had with it, I can highly recommend this idea to any teacher of narrative writing or poetry. But it doesn't have to be for an entire course in creative writing. I've used it in my general English and AP English classes as a stand-alone, one-period writing session. It could also be used in any art, painting, drama, or dance class.
This idea has tons of potential (which I elaborate on in the document)--and students love it.
Thanks for considering Tim's Tool Box.
