The Sentence Analysis Map (SAM) is an integral part of Charlene Tess's unique and highly effective method of teaching and learning grammar that students and teachers are using with great success.

Charlene Tess is an educator with over 35 years of classroom experience. She has taught English, journalism, and creative writing to students in grades 7-12, and has developed her resources based on lessons that were successful with her students.

This product includes:

  • a video that shows you and your students how to use the SAM sheet successfully,
  • and a download of the Sentence Analysis Map (SAM) as a supporting document.

Note: You can also purchase The Sentence Analysis Master (SAM) sheet separately without the video. It is available in my store. (But why would you?) This product is a Two4One. You can watch all the tips on how to use the product and get the product.

On the front of the SAM sheet, the 8 steps in Charlene Tess's Simple Steps to Sentence are clearly explained.

On the back of the SAM sheet, are the notes that students will need to analyze sentences. It contains lists of prepositions, conjunctions, helping verbs, etc. These are the notes you would have to dictate, write on the board, or provide on a handout each time they would be needed for a lesson.

The SAM sheet is a time saver for the teacher and an invaluable study sheet for the students. Students should be allowed to use the SAM sheet while doing all assignments and while taking tests. If they follow the 8 in the order they are presented, they can easily analyze any sentence you give them.

In no time, students will improve their writing because they will recognize a well-constructed sentence and be able to write sentences just like them.

Of course, if you want the really easy way to teach and learn grammar, you will want to download the entire book Simple Steps to Sentence Sense, that includes the SAM sheet, lesson notes, overhead projector transparency sheets, group practice exercises, individual practice exercises, tests, and writing connection exercises.

Included is the bonus of having all the correct answers for all the exercises listed in the back of the book. There are a High School print edition and a High School Google Drive edition, a Middle School version of Simple Steps to Sentence Sense, and an Elementary and ESL book. You will find all of them here in my store.
