This PowerPoint is a two-day activity.
Students learn simple and easy ways to write hooks for many different types of essays.
The activity starts out with a bell work prompts asking students what the best pick-up line they've ever heard is.
We then talk about what the purpose of a pick-up line is. I then relate pick-up lines to hooks.
I have seen a drastic improvement in the quality of my students' hooks and intro paragraphs after going through this activity with them! I'm hoping that you'll see the same results with your students.
There are six different hooks that this presentation teaches them about. They learn what the hook types are, when they're used, and they see an example of all six.
Here are the six types of hooks that students will learn about:
At the end of the ppt, there are three different example essay prompts. I have my students practice writing 2-3 different hooks for each prompt.
