Product Description
Product Objective:
Students will be able to write interesting and focused introductions by incorporating a grabber and a stated purpose.

Grade Level:
Grades 4, 5, and 6.

How to Use This Product:
I recently created this product to prepare my students for their state writing exams because I wasn't satisfied with the existing curriculum. This product is just one part of a small line of products I created to practice isolated writing skills deemed important by Common Core State Standards. In this case, my Prompt to Paragraph packet contains 6 exercises in which students practice going from prompt to paragraph by (1) using the prompt to identify their purpose for writing, (2) restating the prompt to ensure understanding and focus, (3) selecting and planning a grabber/hook, and finally, (4) incorporating these steps to create an interesting and focused introduction paragraph.

When to Use This Packet:
I personally used this packet after having already taught the writing process, including elements such as types of grabbers, what a thesis is, etc. Because I used this product post-instruction and in conjunction with other self-made products such as my Citing Sources packet (https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/How-to-Cite-Sources-Practice-Packet-3031131), it is light on instruction and heavy on practice. Therefore, it is best to have provided basic instruction about the writing process before assigning this packet to students.

All in all, with the help of my "How to Write Introductions" practice packet, my kids have become amazing, as well as self-reflective, writers! I hope that this product helps your students do the same! :)
