Make expository writing fun and engaging with this "How to Make an Apple Pie" booklet! Incorporate it into your apple unit study or when you teach how-to writing.

Students write the steps for making an apple pie on each template and staple them together creating a book. Walk through the writing process together with your students or have them complete it individually. You might also look at a real apple pie recipe together before writing.

Even beginning writers can enjoy this activity! Their pieces might not have as much detail, but it's a great way to introduce them to informational writing. It's also helpful for them to learn transition words like first, next, then and last.

This apple writing activity is included in my APPLES unit for kindergarten and first grade. This week-long unit includes detailed daily lesson plans that cover science, math, reading, writing, handwriting, art, music and games. It also comes with links to YouTube videos, QR codes, word wall cards and answer keys. Check it out HERE!
