My kindergartners have LOVED this project. We have been having "Landon the Leprechaun visit us at night "messing up" our classroom. This activity introduces the students to the scientific method while also promoting team work, creativity, and practices their writing. In this activity the students will go through every step of the scientific method and complete their experiment to see if they can catch the leprechaun. For example, the problem is that the leprechaun keeps "messing" up our classroom. Some of the hypothesis say, "I think our trap will catch the leprechaun. They draw a pictures of what their trap wil look like, list the materials that they need, write the procedure for building the trap, write the results of the experiment, and then write what they learned. After my students build their traps next week, we will set them up one day right before they leave and in the morning they will find gold chocolate coins in their traps. My students have really gotten into this activity. They have been working so well together, are very enthusiastic about the project, and have gotten in some good writing all while learning the basics of the scientific method.
