Street art is a very popular art medium that fascinates students. The bold designs and wild shapes look cool. Students want to know how to do that! I want to know how to do that!
In my elementary art room I have several books available for students to look at and learn about street art. It has always been hard to actually show a student how to make funky letters or a tag though. It goes beyond writing in a fancy font and it can get confusing for intermediate age students.
This one page handout is an easy step-by-step guide to drawing your name or tag graffiti style with a pencil, eraser, and fine tip marker. I hand wrote it and tried to keep it simple for students to easily follow along. My class did great with it! It might not be authentic, but the names will look cool and your class will like it.
