This is a final project for the book Huck Finn, but could really be applied to any book at any level. Students are to create a soundtrack based on either scenes or characters from the book. They then have to write a detailed description of why they feel that song fits their specific item. This allows students a chance to combine their music listening preferences with something that they may not usually enjoy (reading and writing) while also making them think critically about setting, mood, etc. in a novel. Students must also provide the songs for the teacher to listen to as well. My final grading rubric is included at the end. This is also a great project for peer editing because students get to listen to each others' music while doing an English project!
