This unit for The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a complete set-up for teaching the novel through small-group discussion in a format similar to a literature circle. Reading assignments are set up in chapter chunks of approximately 3 chapters. To keep the unit from becoming boring, group discussion is suspended occasionally for a crossword puzzle, word search, or some other activity when the weight of the particular reading assignment does not warrant a major idea discussion. The same threads on satire, themes, and motifs are carried out through the entire unit. This is a very effective way to teach the novel, especially for younger high school students. All material needed to teach the unit is included in this download.
