This is a year-long unit designed to compliment your existing human body curriculum. The idea is to make your class into a “pre-pre Med” school. Children are accepted into Medical School and explore each organ system as a rotation much like medical school. It’s an overarching theme that weaves together your individual classroom plans with this enrichment project. The teacher becomes the Attending Physician in charge of overseeing all medical students.
During instruction of each organ system there are rotation projects which can serve as an assessment (can be in addition to or in place of traditional exam as fits the needs of your classroom.) Project ideas are designed with various learning styles in mind to allow students the power to choose a project they feel they can complete successfully. Projects and organ systems can go in any order to fit your classroom textbook and needs. In addition, you can have students present their projects in small groups or in front of the entire class.
Projects in this pack align to the following Common Core Standards. It is up to the individual teacher to assess how to incorporate the standards for each individual rotation project as needed to suit your curriculum requirements.
Standards for Literacy in Science: RST.6-8.1, RST.6-8.2, RST.6-8.4, RST.6-8.7, RST.6-8.8, RST.6-8.9
