This detailed lesson overview guides you through my other Human Body Proportions Lab that is available on TPT. This is one of my personal favorites of the entire teaching year! I have spent several years perfecting it and condensing it into a manageable lesson. Enjoy!
Why will your students like this lab?
This is a hands-on activity where students can get out of their seats and work with a partner. They seem to be fascinated by figuring out their own body measurements and it lab is a great way to introduce proportions to your students. I have used this lab with middle school kids who are body conscious and the end result is a very positive message…that everyone has the same basic body proportions. The tallest kid in the class actually has the same basic proportions as the smallest kid. I have used this lesson from the lowest level math classes to the highest and all students seem to enjoy it.
Why will experienced teachers like this lab?
It is a great application of your curriculum that can be used in real life. It is a nice break from the monotonous worksheets and actually will get you excited about teaching when at times you feel pressured to teach strictly to the test.
Why will new teachers like this lab?
During your first couple of years it is important to show your administration that you can come up with creative lessons that spark enthusiasm in your classroom while still meeting those boring state standards! (**Another tip for new teachers - Don't call the state standards "boring" during your first few years! :))
Why will administrators like this lab?
It shows that teachers are still thinking outside the box and providing their students with authentic learning that will both prepare them for standardized tests as well as the real world. The lab addresses many state standards and spans multiple subjects.
