Breakdown of what each paragraph should include
Students create a story that includes traveling through at least three (two for SWD) human body systems. They must include at least three vocabulary terms for each system. This five paragraph narrative allows students to be creative while still showing understanding of the purpose of their selected human body systems. This is a great assignment to work with your reading/ELA teacher who can provide you with the pre-writing graphic organizer your students are used to using; I printed that on the back of the assignment/rubric sheet.
*** If students have trouble getting started, you can provide example starters such as: the main character is a white blood cell and is trying to fight the evil infection (like in the movie Osmosis Jones), character(s) shrink down and travel through a body to learn about the systems (like Magic School Bus), or the main character is a doctor who has a patient with problems in different systems and must hurry to identify the underlying problem.
