Ordering decimals isn't the funnest thing for students, so you can make it fun by letting students get active and forming a human number line!
Directions for the teacher: Cut out the decimall numbers, and randomly distribute them to your students.
Directions for the students: Look at your card, and decide where it belongs on the number line. What number would it fall between? Would you move to the left or to the right? How many steps is it from zero? Without any speaking, assemble yourselves into a ‘living’ number line. Your goal is to complete task correctly in less than 3 minutes. Good luck!
If time allows, we will collect the cards, redistribute them, and repeat activity to see if you can set a new class record! There are also extension activities included on the last page of the document.
You will receive 27 decimal numbers that you can quickly print and cut, a key to use as a reference, and a set of directions. Your students will love it!
