Description

This is a unit designed to incorporate human rights violations, current events and skills in both reading and annotation that will inspire active discussion and debate. While there are many sensitive subjects such as child brides and hunger as well as videos that correlate with the readings to aid in discussions, there are no scenes with nudity or that push the boundary in any way. These videos are educational in nature are are designed for high school students. In fact, in one of the podcasts, the interviewer even prevents the interviewee from cursing by reminding him that these videos are intended for school aged audiences. I find that the topics really speak for themselves and after having my students read them, discussions form naturally, however as always discussions should be monitored so that everyone can feel comfortable. There are also 3 quizzes included if you wish to monitor student progress and an annotation sheet that can be used with any one of the readings. (It is attached to the India word doc).
