Check out how three teachers were able to integrate English Language Arts and Social Studies. Why? The integration of ELA and Social Studies is often a perfect match and the impact in the classroom can be powerful. The Common Core is requiring that social studies teachers do more with literacy and that ELA teachers do more with documents. In addition, social studies gives context to literature and literature breathes life into social studies. These four course overviews (Humanities I, II, III, IV) provide engaging essential questions along with suggestions for relevant activities. These questions and the sample content ideas are designed to help make learning relevant to today’s world. Some suggestions are quite specific, while others are general. Use this as a guide as you plan your own integrated curriculum.
