Do your students love the character Humphrey? Mine do! Here's a resource to use for guided reading groups or as a whole class read aloud with the book "Humphrey's Mixed-up Magic Trick" by Betty G. Birney from the Humphrey's Tiny Tales series. There are also activities to do during your Language Arts block.
Chapters are divided in half for a total of 8 days of comprehension work. Comprehension skills covered are text-based evidence, sequencing, and problem/solution. There is an additional language or writing assignment. Students can work on point of view and character analysis with writing assignments. There are language activities to cover prepositions, compound words, homonyms, and homophones. Teaching posters and answer keys provided for your convenience. There are two nonfiction extension activities for students to research taking care of a hamster and Harry Houdini. Total unit is 2 weeks.
