The following assessment test student's understanding of plot, conflict, character, theme, setting, point of view, persuasion, flashback, symbol, tone/mood, and pivotal scenes. Students are given the task of drawing the arena as they visualize it. Then they are given 12 tasks/scenes to draw that connect with the listed skills. They must draw the scene and explain how it displays the skill. For example, one task is to draw a time where a theme is evident and explain the theme.
The assessment is a fantastic way of testing the skills, but also giving the students the ability to show what they know in their own way. Answers vary widely and there are times when they identify a scene and skill that I did not previously think of! Students absolutely LOVE this test. They have voiced how they actually enjoyed taking it.
Since answers vary, an answer key is included with four possible correct answers. Also included is a rubric for grading.
Although I've used this to assess students, it can easily be used as a project. Enjoy!
