Prezi is similar to a PowerPoint in that they are both presentation tools, but that is where their similarities end.
Prezi Presentations are created on a "canvas" rather than on "slides". This helps to encourage focusing on combining text, pictures and video clips. Items on the canvas can be dragged, tilted, and zoomed to create an engaging look that really grabs students attention. Prezi Presentations are also FANTASTIC for hitting many learning styles at once (especially if you include video clips and pictures like I do)
I personally like incorporating Video clips in my Prezis as much as possible (the kids enjoy that as well). I think it is also beneficial for students to see the literary elements we discuss in class brought to life in video clips and in pictures.
I have included a few screen shots of this prezi but it is really difficult to get a feel for what it is on something to static.

This is a Pre-reading Hunger Games Prezi I created. I use Tracee Orman's Hunger Games unit (which is AMAZING) but I wanted more when it came to introducing the book so I created this!
I begin the prezi with several discussion questions to get students hooked in.
I then introduce each of the districts in the books with pictures of what each is known for because the kids always ask things like, "What are textiles?" and this gives them a point of reference.
next, I introduce the love triangle and include fanmade book trailers (This always really excites this kids) ***updated with official movie trailer now!
I also include 5 short clips in which the author discusses her life and the book.
****I have now created a handout that goes along with the product so students can interact as they watch the prezi instead of just sitting and watching!
I have used this in the classroom this year and it really pumps the kids up to read the book!
Happy Hunger Games!!!
**Note: I have updated this prezi so it was too large to house on TPT so upon download you will receive a link to the prezi online. You can use the link as it, or you can download it!
