What purpose is author Suzanne Collins making with her Hunger Games trilogy and how does it relate to our world? This exercise (which can be used for an organized class discussion, compare/contrast essay, or a multimedia slideshow project) allows the students to apply the author's purpose, theme, and implications of the text to events or times in our own history (or present).
Three separate handouts are provided for each book in the trilogy, so it can be used at the end of any of the novels. A Venn diagram handout is also included.
Lesson includes objectives, alignment with Common Core Standards for 6-12 ELA, anticipatory set, procedure, and a teacher's guide with a detailed comparison linking the Hunger Games/Capitol with lynchings in the South.
This item is NOT in my digital download Hunger Games unit, but it is included in my MOCKINGJAY teaching unit.
