### PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This file contains a reproducible counting book and lesson plan for using the book, The Hungry Caterpillar. This is a math response to Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

It also includes directions for assembling the book, just in case you need them! :)

How to Use the Book:
After reading Carle’s, TVHC, discuss with your learners how the author used math in his story. Go back and find the pages with the fruits and count each. Practice counting each set together, focusing on K.CC.4b (Say the numbers in standard order and pair the objects with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.) and K.CC.4c (Understand that the last number said tells the number of objects counted.
Introduce the reproducible book as a math response. Ask the students how they would use their counting skills to illustrate the book. Model drawing objects and counting, recounting as you draw to be sure you have the drawn the correct amount of fruit for each page.

Students proceed to draw the fruits to illustrate each page. When all are finished, allow them to read their books with a buddy and to practice counting the fruits with each other.

The great news in my store is that I now have products to teach/practice EVERY Kindergarten Common Core Math Standard as well as many literacy resources. Check it out!
