The weeks before Christmas can be quite chaotic for a classroom teacher. It seems as though visions of sugar plums dance in their students’ heads all day long. Hungry Reindeer is both an individual and class incentive plan designed to help refocus students and keep them working hard right up until the last day before the holiday break.
The idea behind this activity is for students to complete their regular school work to earn ‘hay bale’ food points to feed their hungry reindeer. Each day a teacher chooses several assignments which will be worth points. How many points a student can earn depends on how well they do on the assignment. In addition, each student will, with the help of their teacher set a ‘hay bale’ goal that they will try to reach. Teachers may also choose to set a class goal and chart progress on a class graph.
The duration of this program is 2 weeks. However, a teacher can adapt and either lengthen or shorten the program to better meet the needs of a class. Please note that the teacher is responsible for setting the goals as well as providing the class work that will be worth points--neither are included in this pack.
What the packet DOES Contain: A class graph for tracking the class' progress (requires assembly--20 minutes tops), Individual Goal Tracking Bar Graph, Brag Badges (worn when reaching a milestone), Reindeer Icons (used to dress up daily agenda), Class Work Icons for daily work, Teacher's Recording Sheets for recording student points, Congratulations Certificate (color and black/white copies), You Are Invited Certificate (color and black/white copies) and detailed instructions and pictures showing how Mrs. B uses the contents of this packet.
