Are you trying to share with the students the struggles of hunting and gathering versus being a farming community? With this simulation, you can give them a hands-on experience of why it is difficult. Dividing your students into groups of 2-5 (the more groups the better meaning smaller groups allow for more involvement) allows them to be a tribe. Each tribe starts with one dice because they all start at hunters and gatherers. During the game at round three, you can make whichever group you choose to become farmers, they get another dice. I use the students Chromebooks, one each group and have them go to Google and type in Dice Roller and have them choose the typical dice or whichever dice you would want them to use. I based it off the typical dice. Not every round but some of them will bring about a challenge like the hunters get sick or lost. The farmers and hunters will face drought or even a surplus year and give the farmers more dice. This is my simulation and I made it through the game in almost every class of forty minutes long. In some classes, I would "debrief" things like why is farming better during the game when I would give them another dice.
